Hungrrr vs Flipdish: Which Restaurant Ordering Platform Is Better?
The short answer
Hungrrr and Flipdish both let a restaurant take orders directly, through its own website and its own app, without a marketplace taking a cut of every order. That's most of the overlap. Hungrrr is built around branded ordering. Flipdish does branded ordering too, but it also sells the POS, the kitchen display, self-service kiosks, an AI phone agent and marketing tools, all on one system.
If you only want an app and an ordering page, either will do the job. If you want the till, the kiosk, the phone and the website all feeding the same kitchen queue, Flipdish is the better fit.
What Hungrrr does
Hungrrr is a UK restaurant technology company. Its product covers:
- branded mobile apps for restaurants
- online ordering for restaurant websites
- click-and-collect and delivery management
- loyalty and rewards
Most of its customers are independent restaurants, regional groups and pub operators in the UK.
What Flipdish does
Flipdish started in Ireland and now works with restaurants, takeaways, QSRs, cafés and multi-site groups across the UK and Ireland. Its customers include national QSR chains and casual dining groups running lots of sites. The product list is longer:
- Restaurant POS with kitchen display and order management
- Online ordering through your own branded website
- Branded mobile apps
- Self-service kiosks
- AI Phone Agent for phone orders
- AI marketing and customer engagement
- delivery management and driver tracking
The reason to have all of that from one company is that you don't have to stitch it together yourself.

Online ordering
From the customer's side, the two look much the same. Someone goes to your website or opens your app, picks from your menu and pays you directly. No Just Eat, no Uber Eats, no marketplace commission on the order.
Setting it up is similar too. You build the menu, set opening hours and delivery areas, and orders come through to the kitchen.
The difference shows up once the order has been placed. On Flipdish, a web order goes into the same system that handles orders from the counter, the kiosk and the phone. The kitchen sees one queue. On Hungrrr, ordering sits on its own, and connecting it to what happens in the venue usually means an integration with a separate POS.
On a quiet Tuesday afternoon that hardly matters. On a Friday night with orders coming in from four directions, it's the difference between one screen and two systems someone has to keep an eye on.
Mobile apps
Both companies build apps under your restaurant's name. The customer downloads your app, not a Hungrrr or Flipdish app, and it's your logo on their home screen.
Flipdish builds native iOS and Android apps and has done so for some of the biggest restaurant groups in the UK and Ireland. Loyalty and push notifications are part of the same system that handles ordering and marketing, so they aren't bolted on afterwards.
Hungrrr makes branded apps as well, mostly for regional restaurant groups and pub chains.
Whichever way you lean, ask each provider what share of their customers' orders come through the app compared with the website. It tells you more about what you're paying for than a feature list does.
POS
This is the biggest gap between them. Hungrrr's core product is ordering, not POS. To link online orders to the till and the kitchen, you'll usually need an integration with a third-party POS.
Flipdish has its own restaurant POS, on the same platform as its online ordering. What that means day to day:
- change a price or 86 an item once and it updates on the till, website, app and kiosk
- the kitchen sees every order in one queue, wherever it came from
- reports cover in-venue and online sales together, so nobody is adding up two sets of numbers at the end of the week
- there's no integration between two vendors to break, and no back-and-forth about whose side the problem is on when it does
If you're happy with your current POS and just want an online channel, either platform can work. If your POS is due for replacement anyway, price up Flipdish's before signing for a separate ordering product.
Self-service kiosks
Flipdish sells self-service kiosks that run on the same system as its POS and online ordering. Kiosk orders go into the same kitchen queue. Menu changes carry over automatically. Upsell prompts are built in, and Flipdish says they usually raise average order value by 15-30%.
Hungrrr doesn't offer kiosks.
A small takeaway with one counter might never want one. For fast-casual sites, QSRs and anywhere with a queue out the door at lunchtime, this is a real difference between the two.
AI phone ordering
Plenty of takeaway customers still ring. Flipdish's AI Phone Agent answers those calls, takes the order in normal conversation and sends it straight to the kitchen. During the rush, nobody has to leave the pass to pick up the phone, and calls that would have rung out get answered.
Hungrrr has nothing like this.
Marketing and loyalty
Both have loyalty features. Hungrrr has a loyalty and rewards module, and it does the basics.
Flipdish goes further with AI marketing tools that look at ordering behaviour and build campaigns from it. A customer who hasn't ordered in a while can get an automatic offer to bring them back. Your best customers can be picked out for VIP treatment.
Lots of restaurants collect customer data and then do nothing with it. If you want the system to act on that data without someone sitting down to write a campaign every week, Flipdish is ahead here.
Scale
Flipdish works with national restaurant chains and large multi-site groups. It has enterprise account management, API access for custom integrations and the infrastructure to handle a lot of orders across a lot of sites.
Hungrrr mostly works with regional groups and independent operators. Its record at enterprise scale is thinner.
With one or two sites, this may not matter to you. Past five sites, or if you're planning to get there, ask each provider who their biggest customers are and then ring one of them.
Pricing
Neither company publishes a standard price list. Pricing depends on how many locations you have and which modules you take.
Hungrrr is usually pitched as the cheaper way in for restaurants that mainly want ordering and an app. Flipdish's price reflects how much more it covers.
The fair comparison is total cost, not the headline number. Alongside Hungrrr you'll probably still be paying for a POS, a kitchen display, maybe a kiosk system and maybe a marketing tool, each with its own contract and its own support line. Flipdish covers all of those under one contract.
When you get quotes, get these in writing from both:
- set-up and onboarding fees
- monthly fees per site
- per-order or transaction fees, and card processing rates
- hardware costs for tills, kitchen screens and kiosks
- contract length, and what it costs to leave early
- what support is included, and whether anyone picks up on a Saturday night
Then add up what you'd pay for everything you need, not just the ordering piece.
Which one fits
Flipdish makes more sense if:
- you want POS, online ordering, apps, kiosks and AI phone ordering from one company
- you run several sites or plan to
- you want marketing that runs off your own order data to bring customers back
- you run a QSR, takeaway or fast-casual restaurant
Hungrrr may suit you if:
- you're an independent restaurant that mainly wants a branded app and online ordering
- you have a POS you like and don't want to replace
- you want the cheaper starting point and don't need the rest
Before you sign with either
Demos are always smooth. Push past the slides.
Ask them to place a test order on the website while you watch and show you where it appears in the kitchen. Then do the same from the app, and from the phone if that's on offer. If the order needs to pass through a second system on the way, you'll see it.
Ask how a menu change gets from the back office to every channel, and how long it takes. Sold out of something at 7pm is a real test.
Ask whether you can export your customer list if you leave. Direct ordering is meant to give you your customers back. Make sure the contract agrees.
And ask for a reference from a restaurant that looks like yours, same size, same kind of food, same order volume. A national chain's experience won't tell a single-site takeaway much, and the reverse is true too.
How they compare overall
Hungrrr is a solid branded ordering product for restaurants that need the basics. Flipdish covers far more of the operation, and for a restaurant that wants the till, the kitchen, the website, the app, the kiosk and the phone on one system, it's the better long-term choice. It's used by some of the best-known restaurant brands in the UK and Ireland, and it's put AI into phone ordering and marketing, two areas where Hungrrr has nothing comparable.
